The other day I took a look at Tony Kuyper's Luminosity Masks as a way to better select or isolate the bright and dark or mid tones in any picture. The possibilities for editing and blending landscape images with high dynamic ranges are endless, and it looks like it is going to be quite a learning curve. [link]This image is made of three images taken from one RAW file. This choice was necessary to cover the different highlights, as the light was pretty harsh at the time. How does it look?
Update: Based on the advice of Tony Kuyper I added more contrast to some bright and dark areas using a "luminosity painting layer", as he calls it.

A lot is going on in three years of technical advance, so I expect it to be better. If I would buy a new camera today, I probably would get the D7000. I love Nikon, and have no idea about Canon.
